Experience Free Family Fun this Summer at El Paso County Parks
Join El Paso County Parks and Recreation as they kick off their exciting Parks After Sunset movie series, transforming local parks into hubs of community activity. Beginning on select Fridays and running through July 25, families can gather to watch films under the stars while enjoying a range of additional activities.
Each movie night promises fun-filled festivities, including pet adoptions and microchipping opportunities, as well as water spray zones designed to help attendees cool off before the feature presentation. Residents are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and snacks, while swimsuits are recommended for splash-loving guests. Remember, alcohol and tobacco products will not be permitted, ensuring a wholesome environment for all.
Celebrate Culture at the Sal y Limón Festival
This Saturday, June 7, Downtown El Paso will burst into color and sound as the Sal y Limón Street Festival returns for its fourth year. Running from 2 to 11 p.m. around San Jacinto Plaza, this vibrant festival provides a platform for local flavors and sounds. Headlined by the famous musical group Los Tucanes de Tijuana, the event will feature live lucha libre wrestling, mariachi performances, and an impressive line-up of DJ sets alongside over ten local taco vendors.
The festival is family-friendly, including shaded areas for rest and numerous artistic installations to enjoy. Those looking for an enhanced experience can consider VIP access, providing exclusive amenities and optimal views.
A Day of Pride at the Museum of History
As part of the celebrations, the El Paso Museum of History is hosting its sixth annual Family Day: Pride on June 7 from noon to 4 p.m. This free event aims to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, featuring a queer-owned vendor market, engaging activities for all ages, and a resource fair connecting attendees with local organizations such as Sun City Pride and PFLAG El Paso.
Highlighting this year’s festivities is a new pop-up exhibit focusing on the historic Diamond Lil Club, an LGBTQ+ bar that played a significant role in El Paso’s history from the 1960s to the 80s. This exhibit serves as a reminder of the impact of local venues in shaping community culture.
Get Ready for Upcoming Entertainment
As summer unfolds, more events are planned like the Cool Canyon Nights, featuring performances by Albuquerque-based Red Light Cameras and a slew of weekly musical acts at the McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre until July 31. The Femme Frontera Film Festival is also returning June 7-8 to showcase diverse films at the newly minted Mexican American Cultural Center.
These events highlight the cultural richness and community spirit of El Paso, making it an exciting place to be this summer.
