City officials recently presented a Sociable City Assessment Plan to the City Council, identifying noise, crime, and excessive drinking as significant issues hampering the district’s appeal. This comprehensive assessment, commissioned by the Responsible Hospitality Institute, acts as a guideline for fostering a collaborative environment where businesses and local communities can coexist. The recommendations include the establishment of rideshare hubs, improved public parking access, and enhanced communication between business owners and the city.

However, not everyone is on board with the proposed changes. Several business owners claim they were not adequately consulted during the planning process. Jacob Jimenez, co-owner of Coconuts Bar & Grill, emphasizes the need for dialogue: "There needs to be common ground,” suggesting that the city's lack of outreach may lead to misunderstandings and operational setbacks.

The recent amendments to traffic ordinances, including designated rideshare zones, aim to minimize disturbances caused by high traffic levels. Nevertheless, business owners like Marshall Berry express concerns over stricter noise ordinances that might limit outdoor entertainment options. Berry states that changes are often made without notification, resulting in fines instead of constructive discussions.
