In a significant turn of events, residents of Socorro are breathing a sigh of relief after the city government announced a new preferred route for the long-debated arterial road, previously set to cut through homes along Bauman Road. Dr. Lorena Silvestre-Tobias, a lifelong Socorro resident and a key community advocate, shared the emotional toll the original plan had on her and her neighbors. “For five years, a lot of our neighbors got sick. A lot of our neighbors have expressed their concerns in tears,” she said, emphasizing the stakes involved in the city's decision.
