In a significant move aimed at improving workforce readiness among adults, El Paso Community College (EPCC) is partnering with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to implement a groundbreaking program for individuals aged 18 and up who lack a high school diploma. This initiative, known as the Opportunity High School Diploma, was initiated through House Bill 8, which the Texas Legislature passed in 2023, allocating approximately $2 million for this purpose.
Addressing Educational Gaps
Currently, around 30,000 adults in El Paso are navigating life without a high school diploma, a credential that can limit job prospects and earning potential. After dropping out to support his family, he has achieved professional success yet desires the diploma that eluded him during his youth.
